1. Choosing fabrics, custom specific sourcing & designs

We aim to make it easy for you to browse and shop our products online and therefore have accurate pictures and detailed product descriptions of all of our products. We also classify all of our products in multiple categories. So whether you are after a specific fabric designer, style, colour, weight (use), price point etc. you can click on the respective category and see only the matching products.

You can use the shopping cart like a fantasy wish list, and hold all the fabrics you have some interest in there while you browse.  You can see them all collected together there with a photograph - placing them in the cart does not mean you have to buy them.

Add all the products in the desired quantity to the shopping chart and you will immediately see a "quote" for your selection (=shopping cart) which you can print. Only when you are satisfied with your choice confirm the order by pressing the "checkout" button in the shopping chart and follow the instructions to pay.  The Bolt of Cloth website uses the very latest secure payment technology and we hold no credit card information.

If you have a specific project in mind and like our support please use the "contact us" function of the webpage or send us an email to info@boltofcloth.com. The better you can describe your current environment (materials, colours, furniture etc. - incl photos if possible) and what you like to achieve (e.g. curtain, style, colours, pattern, budget) the easier it is for us to support you on your mission with ideas and quick quotes.

We have an interesting range of cushions, curtains, blinds, lampshades etc. in our "Workshop Design" Section to inspire you. Basically we can custom make any fabric into any of these products for you. E.g. if you like a cushion but like it in a different fabric we will easily do it for you.

If we run out of stock of a specific fabric or you can not find the perfect fabric for your project in our product catalogue let us know. We frequently recieve new fabric shippments and we can source a fabric specifically for you!

2. Tips for buying fabric online

The challenge to successfully buying fabric online are:

- understanding the real pattern size
- matching colours
- touch and feel of the fabric

We are working to continually improve the accuracy of our photographs to give you the best possible idea of how the fabrics look - you will see improvements over the coming months.

In particular we will improve the pictures of the enlarged product images (when you click the normal sized product image). The pictures will be taken in a consistent light source with a high resolution so that colours match more accurately and the pattern is very clear. Also the enlarged product images should give you a great feel for the pattern (size) in reality. However even with the best efforts colours may vary slightly simply due to differences in the brightness and contrast of each computer screen or the various printer used. Therefore if you need to match exact colours, please request a sample. We are happy to send you small samples for colour matching, and do this free of charge.

We only sell high quality fabrics but you will still need to understand what the fabrics are suitable for and may want to know how the different base cloth (cotton, linen, blends, oil cloth etc.) feel. To help you with this we state the exact weight in gsm (gramms per m2) of the fabric in the product description (when provided by the producer). Also we classify all fabrics into the weight categories: light (up to 200gsm), medium (200-400gsm), heavy (>400gsm) which match the recommended use for the various fabrics.

If you have a larger project in mind we strongly recommend that you order samples first so we are sure that you will be entirely satisfied with the choosen fabric!

3. Order Quantities

Fabrics are sold by linear meter (independent of the width of the fabric). It is possible to order small quantities of our fabrics. Each fabric states the minimum cut and what size increments additional amounts can be in. For most of our fabrics it is 0.4m with 0.1m increments.  For all the fabrics that are suitable for quilting, the minimum is 0.25 with a 0.05 increment.  This will be cut as a fat quarter (50cm x half the fabric width, so a square) unless you specify in the special instructions box during checkout that you would like it cut as a linear strip.

Quantities used in the "Sewing to Order" section refer to:

- curtains - quantity (qty) = number of drops in a specific curtain style

- blinds - quantity (qty) = number of blinds in a certain size

- cushion cover - quantity (qty) = number of cushion covers (without inners)

- sewing by the hour - quantity (qty) = number of hours (where 0.25 = 15 minutes)

Quantity sold in the "Workroom Design" and "Supply" sections should be easy to understand. Please inquire if you are not sure to what the quantity in a specific product refers to. We are happy to help you!

4. Pricing

All prices are given per linear metre in NZ$ (New Zealand Dollar). Please note the width of each fabric in the description as widths vary from bolt to bolt.

For sales within NZ the prices are including GST. A delivery charge is added per order.

For sales to other countries the prices quoted include 0% GST and delivery charges vary depending on the weight of the order. Please note that customers might have to pay a country specific import tax (VAT,GST, etc.) in accordance with the governing import regulation of the destination. Regarding the convertion of NZD into your local currency we recommend you look up the actual exchange rate on the internet page of your preferred bank.
